One of the greatest American statesmen to ever grace the halls of Congress has passed away on August 25, but Senator Ted Kennedy’s legacy lives on. His tireless work for many progressive causes — most visibly, health care and civil rights for all Americans — should be celebrated. When those without a voice needed him, he was always there.
A quote gracing his website demonstrates Senator Kennedy’s commitment to liberal causes: “Every American should have the opportunity to receive a high quality education, a job that respects their dignity and protects their safety, and health care that does not condemn those whose health is impaired to a lifetime of poverty and lost opportunity.”

In a statement, President Obama called Kennedy “not only one of the greatest senators of our time, but one of the most accomplished Americans ever to serve our democracy.”
We must continue to fight for these causes in his honor. Please share your memories and honor the life and work of Ted Kennedy today.

US Senator Ted Kennedy, a lion of the American left and the last of the brothers who dominated US politics for years, has died of brain cancer, his family said. He was 77.
Edward M Kennedy was a towering, controversial figure whose death late on Tuesday night at his home in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts, ended an era when his family appeared born to rule.
“We’ve lost the irreplaceable center of our family and joyous light in our lives, but the inspiration of his faith, optimism, and perseverance will live on in our hearts forever,” his family said in a statement.
”We thank everyone who gave him care and support over this last year, and everyone who stood with him for so many years in his tireless march for progress toward justice, fairness and opportunity for all.
”He loved this country and devoted his life to serving it.”
The ”liberal lion” of the Senate was the youngest of the Kennedy brothers.
President John F Kennedy was assassinated in 1963.
Senator Robert Kennedy was shot dead as he campaigned for the 1968 Democratic presidential nomination.
Joe Kennedy, a pilot, died in World War II.
